Bye Bye Ugly Shower Stool! Hello Butt Bench!

The Butt Bench? Yeah, I laughed too...

Until I saw it!

WOW.  

I took the Butt Bench over to my aunt's group home to test it out.  My aunt has Downs Syndrome and lives in a group home of about 8 people with similar or more extreme disabilities than her.  I wanted the Butt Bench for her to be able to use while showering/bathing as an aid since her vision isn't the best.

I opened the box in the presence of 3 of the aides.  In unison, our mouths dropped.  We couldn't believe the craftsmanship of the bench.  Not only is it shiny and pretty but it LOOKS expensive.  We all commented on how this looks like something we would find in a fancy hotel!  It is so much classier and refined than the ugly shower stools we see in hospitals, nursing homes, etc. In fact, this is the exact stool they had in the bathroom at the group home:

One of the aids commented on how she would love to use the Butt Bench as an additional shelf in her shower stall rather than the sides of the tub to hold products or those annoying wire things...GENIUS!  I know I can't stand my wire hook thingy that hangs from the shower head.  It tips over every time I take something from it and topsy-turvy go all the rest of the products.

So, we went to install the bench...WHAT INSTALLATION?  I couldn't believe how easy it was~you just pushed the bench into the wall of the shower and the suction cups attached to the bench did all the work for you.

The aids were worried about the bench interfering with one of the resident's nightly baths.  Nope.  No problem there either.  Not only is the bench easy to remove and re-install, but it barely uses up any room in the actual bath space so the resident could still take a bath, without the bench interfering.

One of the aids mentioned that one of the residents has to wait for the tub to drain then lay on the bottom of the tub in order to shave for safety reasons.  NOT ANYMORE!!  They are so excited to use this new bench...

If I had a Butt Bench for myself I would use it not only to store products on it like this:

But also because I have very old piping/plumbing in my home and thus, the water doesn't drain properly.  I'm always taking showers standing in several inches of water.  I'm like a tightrope walker in a circus trying to balance myself from falling over when I shave.  I would love to just be able to sit and shave!  

You can see in the picture above how shiny the bench is...the pictures seriously do not do it justice.  You can tell that the manufacturer has taken great pride in this product and it shows!

I would highly recommend the Butt Bench especially for anyone who has special needs in the shower/bath.  On that note, I looked up the Butt Bench and found that not only do they manufacture Butt Benches, but they also have other products to aid all bathrooms needs.  What I like about this company is that all of their products don't look sterile and what I mean by that is, they don't remind you of a cold, bacterial ridden hospital room.  They are warm and welcoming and fit right into everyday decor.  They don't draw attention to one's special needs...they blend right in.  There are other colors of the Butt Bench available and you can check out their website below.  Further, their prices are incredibly affordable!  More affordable than renting out the ugly hospital equipment as seen in the first picture.

Lastly, I have to add that I've never experienced customer service from a company like this one.  Bill Corcoran, the maker of the Butt Bench, took time out of his busy schedule to personally correspond with me about my aunt's needs.  We shared several emails back and forth and I can't speak highly enough about his integrity.
